"What's there to do at Rancho El Palomar?". First you
should know that there are activites for the whole family and some are
completely unique to Alamos and our ranch. Your biggest problem will
be deciding what to do next. Let me give you a few things to think about.
Horseback
Riding
There are miles of trails to explore on our 1200 acre ranch with mountains,
canyons, and grassy fields. We can do morning and afternoon rides or
an all-day adventure. The horses are right here on the ranch, ready
to go.
Hiking
There are great trails around the ranch and Alamos, and we can hook
you up with guides to explore the rugged canyons and mountains of the
area. We can show you neat places that are off the beaten path.
Dove
Hunting
Rancho Palomar has a well earned reputation as one of the best dove
hunting areas. Felipe has hunting grounds throughout the region, so
there's lots of variety. This is our specialty and we know how to do
it right. From getting your guns and amo into Mexico to preparing your
birds for the trip home, we take care of it all.
Swimming
There's a nice pool right outside your door to cool off after a ride
or hike. The kids may want to play there all day.
Tour
Historic Alamos or Aduana
Alamos has a an amazing history. It's great to just walk around the
old cobble stone streets, admire the colonial buildings and enjoy the
warm sun. But there are many other things to do, such as visit the museum,
the historic church, the home and garden tour, eat at the local restaurants
and hotels. I could go on and on...
Bird Watching
Alamos is a fantastic bird watching area because of it's unique position
in the foothills of the mountains between the deserts to the north and
the tropical areas to the south. There are unique species and excellent
guides in the area.
Mountain
Biking
You can dirt road ride around the ranch or into Alamos, or tackle a
challenging single track ride through the mountains of the area. Bike
riding is a great way to get around, explore the hidden areas, and meet
the local folks.
River Rafting
A float trip down the Rio Mayo is a great way to spend a quiet day and
explore the flora, fauna, and local indian culture.
Visit Sea of Cortez
About an hour's drive from Alamos is the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California).
There are small fishing villages, Mangrove wet lands and miles of beaches.
Local
Festivals and Events
Alamos has many lively festivals throughout the year. The most famous
perhaps is the Dr. Ortiz Tirado Music and Art Festival held each January
which attracts musicians from around the world. But there are also small
town parades and local events that are quaint and wonderful.
Art and Spanish Classes
There are many artists in Alamos which offer workshops in painting,
photography, and other arts as well as Spanish lessons. It's a great
way to really get in touch with the local community.
Shopping
The fun of shopping in Alamos is discovering the places. You can visit
the gift shops that are scattered throughout town, an antique shop,
take a trip out to the village where local pottery is made, or see the
handmade dolls in Aduana. Shopping in Alamos is a lot more interesting
than a trip to the mall.
If there's something else you want to do, let us
know. We'll try our best to make it happen for you.
